Junk hauling is a serious business. If someone is coming into your home or business, trust but verify.

Find the LLC on their website. If the website doesn’t list one, ask for the LLC name. Enter that into the California Secretary of State Business Search to see if the company is registered. Once found, check to see if the registration documents are current and the license status is active.

Next, ask for their USDOT number. Enter the number into the U.S. Department of Transportation Lookup. Once found, check to see if the operating status is active, the cargo carried lists trash and waste, and the number provided matches the company name.

If any potential for damage exists, ask them for the name of their insurance carrier, agent, and how much they are insured for. All haulers are familiar with their coverage. It is one of the largest fixed costs. Verify the information provided on the California Department of Insurance License Status Inquiry page.

Check Google reviews and Thumbtack. Facebook and Angie’s List (now Angi) are great resources but require you to make an account.

If all those check out, congratulations you’ve done your due diligence. May your removal be free of worry.
